Chicken came into my life during the pandemic, a tiny Sphynx kitten with markings that looked like an unfinished tattoo sleeve—just like mine. She also had a small scar on her neck, a reminder of how her mom carried her as a baby. A year later, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, and after surgery, I was left with a scar on my neck too. It felt like life had an eerie way of mirroring itself. Through it all—treatment, recovery, and raising my daughter as a full-time solo parent—Chicken was my constant, my little source of comfort and companionship.

In February 2024, life surprised us again when we welcomed Mango into our family. Unlike Chicken, who had only ever seen dogs, Mango had never been around other animals at all. His world had been small, and I wasn’t sure how they’d adjust to sharing a home. Would they get along? Would Mango feel safe? Would Chicken accept him? Slowly, with patience and trust, they found their rhythm. Now, they’re inseparable—two little nakey troublemakers who bring so much love and laughter into our home.

Better Nakey is my way of channeling that joy into something bigger. After years of simply trying to survive, I’m creating something that makes me happy—sharing the love and quirks of these incredible cats with the world.
